| Shopper's Beware! |
An alert for the savy shopper....The holidays are near and the latest full sized wood carousel copies are on the market. The ones seen so far have been a full sized Flower trimmed Pig or Boar, a Zebra, a lion, several new horses, a frog, and a bear.
An honest dealer will tell you these are new reproductions...but alas they are not all honest so don't be surprised to see many artificially aged...stained , cracked , sanded off, and being passed off as original antiques.
If you start seeing the same figure over and over , like several at the same antique show, or on several websites....beware they are here.
The carving on these reproductions has gotten much better through the years, although still not as fine or delicate as the Originals. Carousels.com, Carouselworkshop.com and several other sites give you an insight what to look for if you are shopping for a carousel piece. When in doubt, send us an email with photo and we'll guide you.
Always ask for a receipt with a complete description of the item.
There is nothing wrong with a decorative reproduction figure....but you should not be paying antique prices for them. Reproductions generally are NOT investment pieces and DO NOT increase in value with time.
