Miniature Carousel Builders Corner

This month's beautiful example of carousel art was constructed by Leo McClure and painted by his wife, Joanne, Hudson, NH. The McClures are members of the Miniature Carousel Builders organization and their carousel was displayed in the MCB Exhibit at the Valley Mall, Hagerstown, MD last month and these photos were taken at that time.

The carousel was built in January 2002 and was under construction for eight months.

The Details:

  • Base: 40" x 40"
  • Carousel: 32" Diameter, 29" Height
  • Carousel Deck: Constructed of walnut and maple woods
  • Ten sweeps, three rows

This Crank Type carousel was hand-made except for the ceramic animals. It features a menagerie of 26 animals, two chariots 460 lights. Leo's wife, Joanne painted the carousel and animals.

The carousel scroll work was modeled after the Grand Carousel, Knobels Park, Elysburg, PA. The interior photos around the "mud room" feature B.B. Circus Posters, Baskill Falls, NY.
